Lakshadweep – Can it be your Soul Destination?

Every journey you embark upon takes you to places. However, only a few can take you somewhere within yourself. Coining a new word, I shall call these ‘Soul Destinations.’ It is here that your journey allows you to take a plunge into your heart only to discover that you and your destination have arrived at the same place. Lakshadweep is undoubtedly my Soul Destination.

Being a tropical archipelago consisting of 36 small islands off the coast of Kerala in the Arabian sea and the smallest Union Territory of India, it is nothing less than a ‘heaven on earth’. If you happen to be someone looking for a place to rediscover yourself, this is perfect.

Sitting buckled inside the tiny aeroplane that had left Kochi, within an hour you will be swooping down unto a breath-taking view, that will surely make you gasp. Circling around the islands before touching base with one of the smallest airports (Agatti) in India, you will be swirling around to absorb God’s divine creation, Nature. The blues, the greens, the turquoise and the silver glint from the sand will explode right inside you. It is here that you shall face yourself just from within. Even in similarities each island is distinctively different. You can choose to stay on one or more islands like Bangaram and Agatti, which I did and visit Thinnakara, Parali and Kalipetti in the mornings.

Every time you get onto that boat whether to reach the island where you are putting up or simply visit one, you will be slicing through the heart of the royal blue water only to spew behind a white discordant frothy crest breaking down into millions of sparkly droplets of water diamonds. And it will leave you wondering, ‘Can it be any better?’

Be it the sun-kissed beaches of your mornings or the silence of the sea under your starry nights, Lakshadweep will cast its spell on you. Your mornings will see the Arabian sea touching delicately the horizon before disappearing into a different shade of blue. And your nights will see the moonlight caressing just the surface of the dark water and disappearing into an endless chasm of possibilities, your possibilities! The moment you realize this you will know for sure, you have arrived at your Soul Destination, Lakshadweep.
