Lucknow - Do not Forget to Smile!

What is the first word that comes to your mind when I say ‘Lucknow’?

Mouthwatering kebabs? Biriyani especially Awadhi? Spectacular chikan and zari work?

Well while all these are true and hold the age-old city’s charm, Lucknow is also a city where locals will address you as ‘janaab’ (sir), ‘mohtarama’ (madam) or ‘begum sahiba’ (ladyship) giving you an instant feeling of royalty.

Although with time the grandiosity of the original royalty has faded, the city has not forgotten to make all those who visit her feel any less than a royal.

So, as you explore this city and discover her glorious past in monuments like Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, British Residency, Clock Tower and many more, you will be left wondering, “How was it back then?”

Back then Lucknow was emerging as a powerful and promising city.

As we know Lucknow is crowned as the ‘City of Nawabs’ if we go further back in time, we will learn that the city was founded by Lakshman, brother of Lord Ram and was known as Lakshmanpuri until it came to be called Lucknow as we call it today.

Today Lucknow is a traditional as well as a trendsetter. She is chaotic yet charismatic. She is pulsating with an energy that will leave you wanting more from her. And you can never have enough for the kebabs won’t stop tasting any less delectable, the biriyani will never disappoint you nor the exquisite chikan and zari work will fail to catch your attention!

So, whenever you are in Lucknow remember, “Zara mushkuraiye aap Lucknow mein hai!” (just smile for you are in Lucknow). Do not forget to smile for this is how the city will surely make you feel royal.
